Nepal Sees Over 92,500 International Tourist Arrivals in January 2026

Nepal’s tourism industry has begun 2026 with strong momentum, recording over 92,500 international tourist arrivals in January, according to the Nepal Tourism Board (NTB). The country welcomed 92,573 foreign visitors, marking a 15% increase compared to January 2025 and signaling a robust recovery for Nepal tourism.

This encouraging growth highlights Nepal’s rising appeal as a global travel destination, driven by its Himalayan landscapes, rich cultural heritage, spiritual significance, and adventure tourism offerings.

Nepal Tourism Recovery Continues in 2026

The January 2026 arrival figures confirm that Nepal’s tourism sector is not only recovering from the pandemic but also surpassing pre-pandemic levels. Compared to January 2019, when 82,273 international tourists visited Nepal, the latest data shows a 14% increase, demonstrating sustained growth and renewed traveler confidence.

In January 2025, Nepal recorded 79,991 international arrivals, making the current year’s figure higher by more than 12,500 visitors. This upward trend reflects improved connectivity, stable travel conditions, and growing international demand for authentic travel experiences.

Diverse International Markets Driving Growth

One of the most positive aspects of Nepal’s tourism rebound is the diversity of source markets. Visitors are arriving from neighboring countries as well as long-haul destinations, reinforcing Nepal’s global tourism appeal.

According to NTB statistics, India remained the largest source market for Nepal in January 2026. A total of 26,624 Indian tourists visited Nepal, accounting for 28.8% of total international arrivals. Cultural ties, close proximity, and easy cross-border travel continue to fuel tourism from India.
