The Ama Yangri Trek is the perfect short trekking adventure for those with limited time in Nepal. Located close to Kathmandu in the Langtang region, this 3-day trek takes you to Ama Yangri Peak (3771m), known locally as the “Mother of Yangri” by the Tamang people. Revered as a guardian deity by the Hyolmo community, Ama Yangri is a sacred and rarely visited mountain offering both spiritual and scenic experiences.
This trek provides a combination of lush forests, vibrant meadows, and traditional Himalayan villages, along with breathtaking views of snow-capped peaks such as Langtang Lirung, Annapurna Range, Manaslu, Ganesh Himal, Dorge Lakpa, and Gaurishankar. Along the way, trekkers can witness the colorful rhododendron forests, encounter wildlife like Red Panda and Himalayan Tahr, and enjoy the warm hospitality of the Tamang and Hyolmo communities.
Ideal for adventure seekers, photographers, and those wanting a quick escape from Kathmandu, the Ama Yangri Trek is an off-the-beaten-path gem in Nepal’s Langtang region.
Pick up from your hotel in Kathmandu between 7–8 AM and drive towards Tarkeghyang. The journey passes through Chabahil, Melamchi, and Timbu, offering views of hills, rivers, and distant peaks. Arrival at Tarkeghyang takes 5–6 hours. Check-in at a hotel or tea house, enjoy dinner, and prepare for the next day’s trek.

Start trekking at 6 AM. The trail passes through pine and oak forests, meadows, and local villages, offering views of Nepal’s flora and fauna. After a 3-hour ascent, enjoy lunch at a tea house before continuing to Ama Yangri Peak. At the summit, soak in panoramic views of Langtang, Everest, Ganesh Himal, Gaurishankar, Annapurna Range, and Manaslu. Descend back to Tarkeghyang, relishing the landscapes along the way.
