Rolwaling Trekking is a hidden gem in Nepal’s northeastern Himalayas, offering trekkers an unparalleled view of pristine mountain landscapes and rich cultural heritage. The Upper Rolwaling Valley is flanked by over 50 peaks above 6,000 meters, including the majestic Gaurishankar (7,145m) and Melungtse I & II (7,181m & 7,023m) across the Tibetan border.

The trek leads through remote Sherpa, Tamang, and Chhetri villages, old monasteries, lush forests, glacial rivers, and alpine meadows. Highlights include the turquoise Tsho Rolpa Lake, the challenging Tashi Lapcha Pass (5,755m), and the scenic descent into the Solukhumbu region, ending at Lukla for a flight back to Kathmandu.

This 16-day adventure combines cultural experiences, wildlife, high-altitude trekking, and panoramic Himalayan views, making it perfect for experienced trekkers seeking both challenge and serenity.

Rolwaling Trekking itinerary

Altitude: 1,350m
Drive along the Friendship Highway, leaving at Lamosangu to reach Shigati. Trek to Suri Dobhan through picturesque landscapes for the first overnight stay.

Duration: 5–6 hrs | Altitude: 1,440m
Trek along rivers and forests with diverse vegetation. Cross suspension bridges and reach Jagat, a small, culturally rich town.

Duration: 5 hrs | Altitude: 1,990m
Walk along the riverbank, climb to the Sherpa village of Simigaun, passing through forested trails and suspension bridges.

Duration: 6 hrs | Altitude: 2,900m
Pass more Sherpa settlements. Enjoy views of Gaurishankar while trekking through pine and rhododendron forests. Descend to Rolwaling Khola.

Duration: 4 hrs | Altitude: 3,690m
Ascend along the Rolwaling Khola valley, with panoramic views of the surrounding peaks. Reach Beding, a serene Sherpa village.

Duration: 5 hrs | Altitude: 4,180m
Pass summer villages, yak pastures, and Buddhist monasteries. Arrive at Na, surrounded by potato fields and alpine meadows.

Trek along rivers and climb rocky lateral moraines to reach the spectacular Tsho Rolpa Lake, a turquoise glacial lake.
