Pumori Expedition overview

The Pumori Expedition is one of Nepal’s most respected 7,000-meter mountaineering challenges. Often called the “Daughter of Everest,” Pumori takes its name from the Sherpa language, meaning “Unmarried Daughter.” This elegant, pyramid-shaped peak rises majestically along the Nepal–Tibet border in the Mahalangur Himal, located just 8 km west of Mount Everest.

Standing at 7,161 meters, Mt. Pumori is a technically demanding climb involving steep ice faces, exposed ridges, deep crevasses, and intricate glacier travel. Previous mountaineering experience, along with excellent physical fitness, endurance, and familiarity with high-altitude environments, is essential. Proper planning, acclimatization, and mastery of alpine climbing techniques are vital to successfully reaching the summit.

The Pumori Expedition serves as an excellent preparation climb for 8,000-meter mountains. Its Southeast Ridge route—accessible via the classic Everest Base Camp trail—offers world-class training in technical mountaineering. The journey to Pumori Base Camp takes you through the heart of the Khumbu region, with Sherpa villages, monasteries, forested valley trails, towering cliffs, and awe-inspiring Himalayan scenery, making the expedition both a physically demanding and spiritually enriching adventure.
