Kori Hill Trek overview

The Kori Hill Trek is one of the newest and least-explored trekking routes in Nepal’s Annapurna region, offering a rare opportunity to experience pristine Himalayan wilderness far from crowded trails. Nestled within the inner buffer zone of the Annapurna Conservation Area, Kori Hill rises to an elevation of approximately 3,800 meters, providing breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding Himalayan giants.

Often described as the crown jewel of Sikles and Tangting villages, this trek is ideal for adventurers seeking solitude, raw natural beauty, and cultural authenticity. Unlike the busy Annapurna Base Camp or Mardi Himal routes, the Kori Hill Trek remains peaceful and untouched, making it perfect for trekkers who prefer off-the-beaten-path experiences.

The trail winds through dense rhododendron forests, alpine pastures, high meadows, and traditional Gurung and Ghale settlements. During the monsoon season, the lush green pastures come alive as grazing grounds for livestock from nearby villages, creating a striking contrast against rugged mountain backdrops. The trek also offers deep cultural immersion, spiritual landmarks, and sacred alpine lakes.

Cultural & Spiritual Significance

The region surrounding Kori Hill is traditionally inhabited by Gurung and Ghale communities, whose livelihoods, beliefs, and customs are deeply connected to the mountains. The people here practice Buddhism and Bon Po, a nature-based spiritual tradition, giving the trek a strong cultural and spiritual dimension.

One of the major highlights is Dudh Pokhari (Holy Milk Lake), a sacred alpine lake located northeast of Kori Hill. The lake is an important pilgrimage site, especially during Janaipurnima (Full Moon Festival in August/September), when devotees gather for ritual bathing and prayers.

Spectacular Himalayan Views

From Kori Danda, trekkers are rewarded with jaw-dropping views of some of Nepal’s most iconic peaks, including:

  • Lamjung Himal (6,988 m)
  • Annapurna II (7,937 m)
  • Machhapuchhre / Fishtail (6,993 m)
  • Manaslu Himal (8,163 m)

Sunrise and sunset from Kori Hill are unforgettable, as golden light washes over snow-covered summits and vast alpine landscapes.

Optional Extensions

  • Kapuche Glacier Lake Trek (2,450 m) – World’s lowest glacier lake
  • Namun La Pass (5,560 m) to Annapurna Circuit (adds 3 days)
