The Khumai Danda Trek, also known as the Machhapuchhre Model Trek, is a short yet incredibly rewarding trekking experience in Nepal’s Annapurna region. Located close to Pokhara, this 4-day trek reaches an elevation of 3,245 meters at Khumai Danda, with an optional hike to Korchan Danda (3,700 m), offering jaw-dropping panoramic views of the Himalayas.
This trek is ideal for trekkers seeking a less crowded, eco-friendly, and culturally immersive adventure without committing to long or physically demanding expeditions. Unlike popular routes such as Poon Hill or Mardi Himal, the Khumai Danda trail remains largely unspoiled, allowing you to experience authentic rural life, untouched forests, and peaceful mountain scenery.
The journey passes through traditional villages like Ghachok and Lachok, dense rhododendron forests, alpine ridges, and natural viewpoints overlooking Machhapuchhre (Fishtail), Annapurna South, Hiunchuli, Mardi Himal, and Dhaulagiri. Combined with warm local hospitality, homestay experiences, and optional hot spring visits, this trek offers a perfect balance of nature, culture, and adventure.
Suitable for trekkers of moderate fitness levels, the Khumai Danda Trek is perfect for beginners, families, photographers, and travelers with limited time who still want a true Himalayan trekking experience.
After breakfast in Pokhara, drive by private jeep or taxi to Ghachok Village (approx. 1.5 hours). From here, begin your trek through terraced fields, mixed forests, and traditional settlements.
The trail ascends steadily through oak and rhododendron forests, offering early mountain glimpses and insight into rural Nepali life.
Today’s trek leads deeper into alpine terrain. You will pass through lush rhododendron forests and open ridges with increasingly dramatic mountain views.
Upon reaching Khumai Danda, enjoy breathtaking sunset views over Machhapuchhre and the Annapurna range.
Early morning hike to Korchan Danda, one of the most scenic viewpoints near Pokhara. Witness a stunning sunrise illuminating Machhapuchhre, Annapurna South, Hiunchuli, and Dhaulagiri.
After soaking in the views, descend through forested trails to Mirsha village, where you’ll experience warm local hospitality.
A short downhill walk brings you to Kharpani Natural Hot Spring, where you can relax in warm mineral water after days of trekking.
Afterward, drive back to Pokhara by jeep or local transport, concluding your Khumai Danda adventure.
