Dhampus Peak Climbing overview

Dhampus Peak Climbing (6,012m), also known as Thapa Peak, rises northeast of the 5,240m Dhampus Pass and stands as one of the most accessible trekking peaks in the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri region. Situated about 14 km west of Jomsom in the Kali Gandaki Valley, it is a rewarding climb often combined with the Dhaulagiri Circuit Trek.

This peak is classified as a non-technical trekking peak, making it ideal for beginner climbers seeking their first Himalayan summit. Although technical mountaineering experience is not required, trekkers should be physically fit and mentally prepared for high-altitude challenges.

The 20-day expedition follows the Dhaulagiri trekking route, crossing lush valleys, alpine meadows, and remote settlements before entering the high-altitude wilderness of the Italian Base Camp, Glacier Camp, Dhaulagiri Base Camp, French Pass (5,360m), and Hidden Valley. The climb includes two acclimatization days at higher camps to ensure safe adaptation.

From the summit, climbers are rewarded with breathtaking views of the Dhaulagiri Massif, Annapurna I–IV, Nilgiri, Tilicho Peak, and Tukuche Peak. Along the journey, trekkers also get the chance to explore diverse flora and fauna of the Annapurna Conservation Area, encounter Thakali and Tibetan Buddhist communities, and experience authentic mountain culture.

With expert Sherpa guidance, a mix of tea house trekking and camping, and proper acclimatization, Dhampus Peak offers an adventurous yet achievable Himalayan climbing experience.
