Ama Dablam Expedition overview

Ama Dablam, at 6,812 meters (22,349 ft), is one of the most iconic peaks in the Himalayas, located in the Everest region of Nepal. Its sharp pyramid shape and hanging glaciers make it a jewel of the Khumbu. Often called the “Matterhorn of the Himalayas,” Ama Dablam is a dream climb for mountaineers and one of the most technical climbing peaks in the world.

The South-West Ridge route is the classic and most popular path to the summit. Climbers face steep ice, rock, and snow sections, fixed rope ascents, and narrow ridges, making this an exciting but demanding climb. Three high camps are usually established above Base Camp:

  • Camp I (5700m): Reached via boulders and rocky terrain.
  • Camp II (6000m): Technical ridges and steep rock sections.
  • Camp III (6300m): Ice and snow ridge below the Dablam (hanging glacier).

From Camp III, climbers make the final push to the summit with spectacular views of Everest (8848m), Lhotse (8516m), Makalu (8463m), Island Peak, and the Khumbu Himalayas.

Ama Dablam is often chosen as a stepping-stone expedition for climbers aiming for 8000m peaks, but it requires solid mountaineering skills and previous experience.
