Bhutan Luxury Tour itinerary

Your adventure begins with one of the most scenic flights in the world, soaring above the Himalayas as you descend into the breathtaking Paro Valley. As the aircraft glides between emerald mountains, you are greeted by crisp mountain air and the serene beauty that defines Bhutan.

After completing immigration formalities, you will be warmly welcomed by your representative. Your private luxury vehicle awaits to drive you toward Bhutan’s peaceful capital, Thimphu.

Along the way, enjoy stops at:

  • Chuzom, the confluence of Paro and Thimphu rivers, beautifully adorned with three different styles of stupas—Nepalese, Tibetan, and Bhutanese.
  • Tschogang Lhakhang, also known as the “Temple of the Excellent Horse,” a charming 15th-century temple perched on a hillside.

Upon reaching Thimphu, your sightseeing begins with:

Buddha Dordenma (Kuenselphodrang)

A magnificent 169-foot statue of Buddha overlooking the entire valley. The viewpoint offers sweeping panoramas, especially beautiful during sunset.

King’s Memorial Chorten

A spiritual site continuously circled by elderly Bhutanese devotees spinning prayer wheels and murmuring mantras. Built in memory of Bhutan’s Third King, it stands as a symbol of peace and compassion.

Trashichhoedzong

This grand fortress-monastery rests along the Wang Chhu River and houses the King’s throne room and central monastic body. Its massive white walls, wooden windows, and golden roofs create an unforgettable sight in evening light.

Overnight: Luxury hotel in Thimphu

After breakfast, you begin a scenic journey toward Punakha, once the ancient capital of Bhutan.

Dochula Pass (3,080 m)

As you ascend through the forested roads, the drive opens to the 108 Druk Wangyal Chortens, an iconic landmark surrounded by Himalayan peaks. On a clear day, the Eastern Himalayas rise majestically, creating postcard-perfect scenery.

Upon descending into the subtropical valley of Punakha, you will visit:

Punakha Dzong – The Palace of Great Happiness

Regarded as one of Bhutan’s most magnificent architectural masterpieces, the Dzong stands at the confluence of the Pho Chhu and Mo Chhu rivers. Its whitewashed walls, golden spires, and intricately carved wooden bridges reflect Bhutan’s unparalleled craftsmanship.

Later, enjoy a leisurely walk to:

Chimi Lhakhang – The Fertility Temple

A gentle 1.5-hour round-trip hike through traditional villages and lush rice fields brings you to this revered temple. Known for its spiritual blessings, it is visited by couples seeking fertility and happiness. The tranquil rural landscape offers glimpses into authentic Bhutanese village life.

Overnight: Luxury resort in Punakha

After a relaxed breakfast, you drive back toward Paro, passing rolling hills, terraced farms, and serene river valleys.

Upon arrival in Paro, settle into your hotel and enjoy lunch before beginning your cultural exploration.

Ta Dzong – National Museum of Bhutan

Originally built as a watchtower, Ta Dzong is now home to a curated collection of ancient art, sacred Thangkas, royal artifacts, armor, textiles, and natural history exhibits. This museum offers a deep insight into Bhutan’s heritage.

From the museum, a short scenic walk leads you to:

Rinpung Dzong (Paro Dzong)

Meaning “Fortress of the Heap of Jewels,” this impressive structure has served as a bastion of defense and a center of spiritual learning. The wooden galleries are adorned with exquisite murals depicting the Wheel of Life, the story of Milarepa, and Buddhist cosmology.

Overnight: Luxury hotel in Paro

Today is the highlight of your Bhutan journey.

After breakfast, begin the legendary hike to Taktsang Monastery, one of the most iconic spiritual sites in Asia. The trail gradually climbs through a pine forest filled with fluttering prayer flags and offers dramatic viewpoints of the monastery clinging to a sheer cliff 900 meters above the valley floor.

Taktsang Monastery (Tiger’s Nest)

This sacred site is believed to be where Guru Rinpoche arrived on the back of a flying tigress and meditated, establishing Buddhism in Bhutan. The monastery’s architecture, perilous perch, and peaceful surroundings make it a profoundly moving experience.

After the descent, return to Paro for a relaxing evening visit to:

Kyichu Lhakhang

One of the oldest and most sacred temples in Bhutan, dating back to the 7th century. With its quiet courtyard, ancient prayer wheels, and spiritual ambiance, it offers a perfect ending to the day.

Overnight: Luxury hotel in Paro

Your luxury Bhutan journey concludes after breakfast. You will be transferred to Paro International Airport, where your representative assists with departure formalities.

As you fly out over the Himalayan peaks, take with you memories of Bhutan’s spiritual tranquility, rich culture, and warm hospitality.
