Detailed Itinerary

  • Day 1 : Arrival in Paro (2,280m)

Your Bhutan adventure begins with a scenic flight to Paro International Airport, one of the most beautiful air approaches in the world. As your plane glides past the snow-capped peaks of the Himalayas, you’ll catch your first glimpse of Bhutan’s pristine landscapes and emerald valleys.

Upon arrival, you’ll be greeted with a warm smile by our representative, who will assist you with visa formalities and transfer you to your hotel in Paro. After checking in, take some time to relax and recover from your journey. In the afternoon, meet your Bhutanese guide for a pre-trek briefing about the upcoming Jomolhari adventure — covering your route, altitude, safety, and local customs.

In the evening, enjoy a gentle stroll through Paro town or visit a nearby monastery to get an introduction to Bhutan’s peaceful rhythm of life. Overnight stay in Paro.

  • Day 2 : Sightseeing & Acclimatization Hike to Tiger’s Nest Monastery (3,180m)

After breakfast, embark on Bhutan’s most iconic hike — the Taktsang Monastery, also known as the Tiger’s Nest. The trail winds steeply uphill through fragrant pine forests draped in prayer flags, offering magnificent views of the Paro Valley.

Perched dramatically on a cliff edge, the monastery is one of the holiest sites in Bhutan. Explore its sacred temples and learn about the legend of Guru Rinpoche, who is said to have meditated here on the back of a flying tigress.

After descending, enjoy lunch overlooking the valley before returning to Paro. In the evening, prepare your trekking gear and attend a final orientation meeting. Overnight at your hotel in Paro.

  • Day 3 : Paro – Sharna (Trek Start) | Distance: 17 km | Duration: 5–6 hrs

This morning, drive to the trailhead at Drukgyel Dzong, where your Jomolhari Trek officially begins. The route follows the Paro River, winding through lush paddy fields, traditional Bhutanese farms, and charming villages.

You’ll walk on a gentle trail shaded by oak and pine trees, passing prayer wheels powered by rushing streams. Stop for a picnic lunch along the riverbank before continuing your gradual ascent to Sharna, a peaceful campsite surrounded by forested hills.

Settle into your first tented camp, where your support crew will have everything prepared — cozy tents, warm meals, and a welcoming atmosphere.

  • Day 4 : Sharna – Sio Thangthangkha (3,750m) | Distance: 21 km | Duration: 7–8 hrs

After a hearty breakfast, begin your ascent along the Paro Chu River, crossing wooden bridges and passing through rhododendron and birch forests alive with birdlife. The trail climbs steadily, offering glimpses of snow-covered ridges as you gain altitude.

Stop for lunch in a serene clearing beside the river. As you trek higher, the landscape opens up into alpine meadows framed by towering cliffs. By late afternoon, you’ll arrive at Sio Thangthangkha, a high-altitude campsite with spectacular views of Mount Jomolhari — your first preview of the sacred peak that dominates the region.

Enjoy a hot dinner prepared by your cook and rest under a canopy of stars.

  • Day 5 : Sio Thangthangkha – Jangothang (4,050m) | Distance: 19 km | Duration: 5–6 hrs

Today’s trek takes you through some of the most beautiful sections of the route. The trail climbs gradually through open valleys, where yaks graze in high pastures and wildflowers bloom in spring.

As you approach Jangothang, the valley widens dramatically, revealing a panorama of towering Himalayan peaks. Upon arrival at camp, you’ll be rewarded with a direct view of Mount Jomolhari (7,326m) — a sight that will take your breath away.

Settle into camp near the river and spend the evening soaking in the tranquility of Bhutan’s high Himalayas.

  • Day 6 : Acclimatization Day at Jangothang (4,050m)

Today is a well-deserved rest and acclimatization day at Jangothang. After a leisurely breakfast, explore the surroundings with optional short hikes to nearby ridges for even closer views of Mount Jichu Drake and Mount Tserim Kang.

If you prefer a slower pace, you can relax at camp, enjoy the crisp mountain air, and photograph the stunning scenery. This is also a great opportunity to interact with local yak herders and learn about life in the Bhutanese highlands.

Evening at leisure — share stories around the campfire before settling into your tent under the glittering night sky.

  • Day 7 : Jangothang – Lingshi (4,890m) | Distance: 21 km | Duration: 6–7 hrs

Today’s route is one of the most rewarding of the trek. The trail climbs steadily to Nyile La Pass (4,890m) — the highest point of the day — offering magnificent views of Jomolhari, Jichu Drake, and Tshering Gang peaks.

After enjoying the vistas, descend gradually into the Lingshi Valley, surrounded by towering cliffs and dotted with yak herder camps. By afternoon, you’ll reach Lingshi, a small traditional settlement with a centuries-old dzong (fortress) perched above.

Camp near the village, with the mountains glowing golden in the sunset.

  • Day 8 : Lingshi – Shodu (4,950m) | Distance: 22 km | Duration: 7–8 hrs

An early start takes you over another high pass, Yeli La (4,950m) — the highest point of the entire trek. From the summit, the views stretch far across the Himalayan range, including distant peaks such as Jomolhari, Gangchhenta, and Masagang.

After soaking in the panoramic views, descend through alpine meadows filled with juniper and wildflowers before reaching Shodu, a tranquil campsite by the river.

Enjoy a hearty meal and relax after a long but exhilarating day.

  • Day 9 : Shodu – Barshong (3,720m) | Distance: 14 km | Duration: 4–5 hrs

Today’s trek descends through rhododendron forests and past cascading waterfalls. The trail winds through lush green valleys, with the Thimphu Chu River accompanying you most of the way.

After a pleasant half-day of trekking, you’ll reach Barshong, a small village known for its ancient dzong ruins and fertile surroundings.

Set up camp nearby and spend the afternoon exploring or simply relaxing.

  • Day 10 : Barshong – Dodina (Trek Ends) | Distance: 22 km | Duration: 7–8 hrs | Drive to Thimphu

The final leg of your trek leads through forested hills, bamboo groves, and small streams before reaching Dodina, where your trekking journey officially concludes.

Here, your vehicle will be waiting to take you to Thimphu, Bhutan’s charming capital. After checking in at your hotel, take a refreshing shower and celebrate your successful trek over a delicious Bhutanese dinner. Overnight stay in Thimphu.

  • Day 11 : Explore Thimphu – The Cultural Capital of Bhutan

After breakfast, enjoy a full-day sightseeing tour of Thimphu, blending ancient tradition with modern Bhutanese life. Visit the Buddha Dordenma, a colossal golden statue overlooking the valley, and Tashichho Dzong, the seat of the Bhutanese government.

Explore the Bhutan Postal Museum, Folk Heritage Museum, and the lively Craft Bazaar filled with handmade souvenirs. Stop for lunch at a traditional restaurant before visiting Changangkha Lhakhang and the Memorial Chorten, where locals gather to offer prayers.

In the evening, enjoy a farewell dinner accompanied by a Bhutanese cultural dance performance.

  • Day 12 : Thimphu – Paro Airport – Departure

After breakfast, drive back to Paro Airport for your departure flight. Your guide and driver will assist you with check-in and bid you a warm farewell.
